Project Officer

Support to Life (STL) is an independent humanitarian agency working in the field of disaster risk reduction, disaster preparedness, and emergency response in Turkey and the surrounding region.  With an emphasis on community participation, STL works at a grassroots level to build local capacity, mitigate the risks and impact of disasters, and support those in need in meeting their basic needs and rights.

In line with its mandate STL currently has the following main activities:

• Refugee Support Program: in response to the increasing number of refugees in Turkey, STL is supporting refugees living outside camps in the Turkish border area through a food security programme providing psychosocial support through the establishment of Community Centres;
• Child Protection Program: STL has been providing protection services and psychosocial care  for Syrian children and children affected by seasonal agricultural migration. Targeting both at-risk and working children among the refugees as well as the host community, STL has been supporting children’s education through life skills activities, awareness raising sessions and workshops.
• Civil Society Disaster Platform: in collaboration with partners, STL has launched a platform that will bring together civil society actors in sharing information and coordinating projects related to disaster management in Turkey.

STL currently operates three Community Centers in Hatay, İstanbul and Şanlıurfa. The Community Centers are aimed at improving the psychosocial wellbeing of non-camp Syrian refugees through various social activities, awareness raising workshops, life skills trainings, and counselling sessions.  STL is looking for a Community Center Project Officer to ensure the day-to-day operations of the Case Management Team of the center.

• Update sectorial service mapping exercise in Şanlıurfa relevant to protection sectors namely health, child protection, women protection, education, access to legal services
• Identify areas to improve in the case management system via practice on the field.
• Supervise outreach and in CC case identification processes undertaken by field workers
• Monitor effective access to services by beneficiaries
• Accompany where necessary the beneficiaries to service providers premises and assist the service reception.
• Pay field visits with the field workers to urgent case affected HHs.
• Be in coordination with service providers for effective referral processes.
• Monitor the performance of the field workers vis-à-vis effectiveness, approach towards beneficiaries, approach towards service providers.
• Individually advise and assist target audience in accordance with community centre case management offers and schedules upon undertaken relevant needs assessment.
• Maintain the beneficiary database duly, produce monthly reports.

• University education and/or training with demonstrated experience in a relevant field such as, social work, psychology, international relations, public policy,  or law..
• 1 years successful experience in direct social support with vulnerable groups ideally refugees, IDPs, youth, women,
• Fluency in English and Turkish (excellent written and spoken) Knowledge of Arabic and/or Kurdish is a distinctive advantage,
• Proficiency in common IT hardware/software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access),
• Excellent analytical, reporting/communication/note taking and interpersonal skills,
• Training or higher education on humanitarian law, protection systems is an asset,
• Good understanding of and engagement with the humanitarian context and the key principles of accountability, impartiality, neutrality, independence and cooperation,
