Out Processing Caseworker

The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) is an internationally operating non-governmental organization serving and protecting uprooted people, regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, or nationality.

For three decades, ICMC has partnered with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration to conduct refugee resettlement. Currently ICMC holds the US Government contract for Resettlement Support Center (RSC) Turkey and Middle East (TuME). As part of this service we work with several thousands of refugees and their families each year and take them through each stage of processing that is required for resettlement to the U.S.A. ICMC also has a sub-office in Beirut, Lebanon. The caseload includes a variety of different nationalities, including Iraqis, Iranians, Somalis, and Afghanis.

UNHCR identifies and refers refugees to be selected for the resettlement program and members of the Out Processing team are responsible for processing refugees through different stages of resettlement including preparation of the refugee case files for adjudication by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officers. 

Job Purpose

The Out Processing Caseworker is responsible for ensuring that the files are correct and up to date when being  presented to USCIS officers  and cooperating closely with and assisting officers and completing the necessary steps of post USCIS interviews, getting refugees ready for travel.  

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• To work closely with USCIS teams during the circuit rides, entering USCIS results in the database;
• To run quality checks and file reviews to ensure that they are complete and accurate and to correct any processing errors  after USCIS adjudication;
• To assists in various administrative tasks including but not limited to: researching, data entry, physical file updates, filing and case analysis;
• To assist in scheduling refugees for medical appointments and entering medical exam results on the database;
• To coordinate with In-Processing, Clerical, Refugee Information / Communication and Cultural Orientation units to ensure that the operational needs of the refugee processing program are met and high standards of casework are maintained;
• To communicate with refugees as and when needed;
• To establish and maintain good relationships with outreach contacts, with “processing partners” that include UNHCR, IOM, RPC and panel physicians;
• To take an active part in staff professional development and contribute to the overall goals of the Program;
• To perform tasks assigned by the Supervisors and the Head of Resettlement

• Ability to uphold ICMC’s values of fairness, equality and respect of human dignity;
• Commitment to safeguard refugee interests and to prevent any real or perceived abuse of trust and conflict of interest;
• University degree or equivalent;
• Proven inter-personal skills in relating to colleagues, interpreters and refugees with patience and compassion;
• Demonstrated interest in human rights issues
• Willingness and ability to travel as and when necessary;
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
• Demonstrated ability to work flexibly to accommodate fluctuating workload and meet tight deadlines;
• Knowledge of MS Office applications and typing skills;
• Written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of Arabic and /or Farsi is an advantage;
• Previous experience working in a multi-cultural environment;
• Previous NGO experience (an advantage).
