KEY RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS: 1. Overall administration of the Purchasing function. 2. Select suppliers from approved suppliers lists, issue enquiries and orders, using selected suppliers where applicable. Pay special attention to fast-track items. 3. Liaise closely with Fleet Superintendents on purchasing matters. 4. Co-ordinate delivery of ship spares and stores on authorisation from relevant departments and provide prompt advice of any problems 5. Advise spares shipment details to vessel and vessel agents 6. Progress the delivery of orders on board, resolve any discrepancies, advised by vessel with suppliers. 7. Receive, check and manage invoices within the scope of the procedures and pass to the Accounts Department for payment 8. Carry out assessments of suppliers and evaluate and update the approved suppliers’ lists. 9. Maintain the competitiveness and efficiency of the purchasing department 10. The preparation of estimates, financial statements, budgets and reports on the Purchasing Department, in conjunction with the technical Manager. 11. REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB (Qualifications, essential skills, and experience) |
· Recognised marine technical qualification or experience either at sea or university, or experience in a marine purchasing role is desirable,
· Some years’ experience in a managerial role is desirable
· Good communication skills,
· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with people both inside and outside the Company,
· Good planning and organisational skills,
· Assertive with a pro-active and can-do approach to work.
