The British Embassy in Ankara is seeking a Security Guard to join their Security Team on a permanent basis. Duties will include access control and searching of visitors. The security guard is expected to display a pleasant and professional demeanour at all times. This role will include shift and weekend working. The selected candidate is expected to take up the position from 11 July 2016.

 

Main Duties / Responsibilities: 

 

  • To be an effective member of British Embassy Ankara’s Guard Force/Security Team, working well with colleagues to keep the Embassy safe and secure.
  • Proficiently search visitors and contractors before they enter the mission.
  • Identify visitors and contractors and issue them with security passes.
  • Proficiently search vehicles before they enter the mission.
  • Carry out security scans on incoming mail and parcels for explosives and dangerous substances, etc.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all visitors and contractors who have entered the premises.
  • Escort visitors while they are on the premises.
  • Monitor CCTV
  • Assess, and respond to, any potential security threat against the Embassy or members of its staff and visitors and report the details to the Security Manager.
  • Carry out other security duties which you may be called upon to perform.
  • Maintaining issued equipment to an acceptable standard.
  • Escorting of catering service – Overtime.

 

You will be required to do shift duties including nights.

Required Experience & Skills:

 

  • Hold a High School Diploma
  • Hold a valid Security Certificate 5188
  • Have a reasonable command of written and spoken English
  • Have previous security experience
  • Be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Be able to work under pressure and complete tasks to an agreed standard
  • Be able to work effectively and flexibly with others
  • Proficiency in the following FCO key competences:

 

o    Seeing the Big Picture

Seeing the big picture is about having an understanding and knowledge of how your role fits with and supports FCO objectives and delivery of Diplomatic Excellence. It is about understanding how your work fits into your team and Posts delivery of objectives. 

o    Collaborating and Partnering

This competence is about having effective working relationships with people in your workplace. To get your job done it requires working collaboratively, sharing information and building supportive, responsive relationships with co-workers and teams. 

o    Managing a Quality Service

Effectiveness in this area is about trying to improve the quality of service, taking account of customer needs and requirements in your work area. People who are effective organise their time and activities to deliver a high quality and efficient service. 

o    Making Effective Decisions

To be effective in this area you will know when to ask for advice and make decisions about your own work using previous experience of similar situations.

 

Terms and Conditions: 

This is a full-time, permanent contract for 5 working days (42.5 hours net) per week. 

 

The selected candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and 2 months probation period. 

 

The annual salary for this position is 32,409.60 TL grossS2 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law. 

 

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ankara is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.
