Tunnel Engineer

Arup is one of the world top engineering and consultancy firms. We are seeking a Geotechnical / Tunnel Engineer for our İstanbul Office to strengthen our Geotechnical Engineering Team mainly for our rail projects. The successful candidate will be a part of our infrastructure group in İstanbul dedicated mainly for variety of railway projects.

This tunnelling role will involve work on a variety of challenging projects with opportunities to work on projects globally.  The successful candidate will join an active network of tunnellers and a broader technical and project delivery network that underpins Arup’s success.

The successful candidate will work under supervision of senior leaders and project managers.

• Preparing desk study reports, technical assessments, reports, drawings and performing calculations, technical specs through all design stages of tunnel design. Planning, overseeing and managing on site investigations and laboratory testing, Managing and interpreing of site investigation data,
• Integrated working with other disciplines in the Infrastructure team and globally to deliver technical solutions for tunnel projects.
• Candidates will have technical support from the Global Tunnel Skills network
• Numerical modelling using packages such as Plaxis, Oasys Geo Suite, Geo Studio, Rocscience, Plaxis, gINT and Arup’s in-house software in conjunction with Arup Research and Development
• Candidates will be expected to deliver high quality work by extracting expertise from their peers and experts within Arup; so a high degree of collaboration is expected
• They will be expected to deliver and present results to project teams and to clients where appropriate

• Degree or higher qualification in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical subject area
• Minimum 3 years of design experience, preferably in design of railway, metro projects, tunnel design preferably with mined and bored tunnels
• Knowledge of numerical analysis tools, such as finite elements and structural design software is a requirement such as, Plaxis, Oasys Geo Suite, Geo Studio, Rocscience, Plaxis, gINT and Arup’s in-house software
• Be familiar designing in Turkish standards and Eurocodes
• Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential
• Excellent command  of  English, both written and spoken,
• Candidates will be expected to work within a team in a collaborative way
• Strong planning skills are an advantage to manage often complex and challenging issues and projects
• Experience in specifying, interpretation and management of site investigations and laboratory testing,
• Understanding of various construction techniques used locally and internationally,
• Working experience in multinational and English speaking environment.
• Driving licence is preferable.
