Counter Fraud Support Officer (Ref. TUR571)

The British Consulate General Istanbul is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is seeking a temporary Counter Fraud Support Officerfor the Overseas Counter Fraud Network (Her Majesty’s Passport Office - HMPO).

The primary purpose of the role is to assist the Counter Fraud Officer (CFO) based in Istanbul by carrying out assessments and checks on complex British passport applications received in the UK from Turkey and other countries that fall within CFC Istanbul catchment. The successful candidate will have to consistently meet targets for quality efficiency and customer service.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessing British Passport Applications. This will involve performing verification checks on documents submitted with the application, preparing and conducting interviews and providing clear and concise assessments on the applications to the Counter Fraud Officer for approval;
  • Build up a strong network of contacts by liaising with external stakeholders, local government offices and other UK departments;
  • Liaising with DNA companies in order to arrange and perform DNA testing in relation to British passport applications submitted from overseas countries;
  • Deal with all passport related activities (including correspondence from members of the public) as per HMPO Policy and any other ad-hoc tasks as directed by the CFO.

 

Terms and Conditions

This is a full-time one-year temporary contract, for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. The position includes an initial probationary period of 2 months.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance and is expected to commence employment as soon as possible.

The annual salary for this position is 56,469.60 TL gross, A2 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General in Istanbul are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Fluent English written and verbal communication skills (additional language skills would be an advantage);
  • Previous professional experience within a fraud field or another Embassy / Consulate is desirable;
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent customer care and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong IT skills;
