Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 35 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Turkey since early 2013, working with by and large with non-camp Syrian refugees and affected host communities. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves.?The overall objective for DRC in Turkey is the protection and promotion of durable solutions to displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights with more immediate objectives focusing both on the immediate subsistence needs, protection and self-reliance support as well as a more long term focus on capacity building. In Turkey, DRC works partially through partners, also providing intensive capacity building support, while also conducting direct implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implmenting the rfeugee community-based psychosocial interventions; this includes identification of, planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of interventions
  • Identify the specific psychosocial needs of children enrolled at the Child Friendly Space and the needs of  their families 
  • Provide information dissemination on existing services, provide awareness on specific topics (i.e. reproductive health), provide different age groups with suitable psychosocial activities to restore dignity of community members and help them cope with their psychosocial distress, as well as ensure referrals to services.
  • Identify the specific psychosocial needs of women, men and youth participating to the activities carried out in the DRC Safe Spaces 
  • Use age-appropriate screening techniques to identify development concerns and  support psychosocial needs
  • Identify and immediately report any risk of harm to self or others 
  • Identify specialized needs and refer cases to psychologic services
  • Support the Protection Manager in documenting the psychosocial support program components, such as activities, best practices and lessons learned
  • Liaise and work with community members, local organizations, and leaders to address protection issues in the camps
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of programs and activities. 

    What we offer:

    DRC Turkey offers an employment contract of 2 months with the possibility of extension (depending on funding). The position will be based in Şanliurfa with regular travel to other DRC Turkey offices in the country as directed. We offer a fair compensation package depending on your qualification and experiences between USD 909 and USD 1045 as well as additional allowances such as relocation allowance and living allowances, if applicable. DRC Turkey is income tax exempted. Furthermore, DRC Turkey provides training opportunities to develop and strengthen the quality of its services as well as its staff members’ professional and personal development.

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

  •          University degree or advanced training/courses in social sciences
  •          At least 1 year of relevant professional protection experience with a NGO
  •          At least 6 months’ work experience with psychosocial counselling.
  •          Experience with livelihoods in a Turkey context
  •          An understanding of the labour market in Turkey
  •          Fluency in Arabic and excellent skills in English (written and spoken). Turkish is a plus
  •          Strong initiative and self-motivation, with a commitment to teamwork
  •          Flexible, enthusiastic and willingness to learn from others
  •          Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines
  •          Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  •          Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. in bullet points
