Beginning as a small trading firm in Sulaimaniyah in the late 1980s, Qaiwan has consistently grown stronger and more profitable, growing into a group of companies in 2003, with a head office in Dubai to oversee the expanding business. Qaiwan now owns a mall, a hotel, a residential complex and operates the largest oil refinery of its kind in the Kurdistan region.
Today the Qaiwan Group has a turnover of approximately one billion USD and is known both regionally and internationally as one of the foremost and most well-regarded groups in Iraq, dealing with such renowned companies as Hitatchi, BP Middle East and Singapore, Vitol Asia Pte and Trafigura.

Qaiwan Group is currently in the exciting process of expanding its Bazian oil refinery, which is already at 20,000 barrels a day the largest of its kind in the Kurdish region. Our trading arm provides petroleum products to the Middle East and Asia, mainly SR Fuel Oil, SR Naphtha and Gasoil. Qaiwan is also an active player in the Caspian region where it sources gasoline into Iraq.

Qaiwan is uniquely positioned to be able to partake in the dynamic Iraqi and Middle Eastern markets: by being able to use the Qaiwan Group’s well-implemented and thorough distribution network and extensive experience in the region, Qaiwan already has a significant head start.
Furthermore, Qaiwan has a 20-year agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq to operate the Bazian Oil Refinery, this ensures stability and guaranteed take-off agreements minimising the inherent risk for the Company.
We also have several construction and hospitality projects underway including building a cement plant as well as distribution of commodities; we are for instance Hitachi's sole distributor in Iraq. Through a unique and well-developed logistics and distribution chain, we are able to spread across the country and indeed the world with an efficiency and reliability that is a first in Iraq.

With offices in 5 different countries and over a thousand employees, it is clear that Qaiwan Group has made its mark upon the region and it is, with our many new projects in the pipeline, entering into an new phase of further expansion and growth, ensuring that Qaiwan remains a dynamic and vital Group of companies.
