Job Description
Introduction
The British Consulate General in Istanbul is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to hire Temporary Entry Clearance Assistants for the UK Visas and Immigration section, based in Istanbul.
The main purpose of the job is to play a multifunctional role in a demanding environment and support UK Visas and Immigration department in various tasks as required.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
- Visa writing;
- Interpreting for visa officers during interviews;
- Translating documents from English to Turkish and vice versa when required;
- Dealing with customer enquiries in written and spoken English;
- Supporting appeals administration, data entry and correspondence teams as required;
- Carrying out any other duties that may be delegated by the Office Managers.

Required Experience & Skills
The ideal candidate should be:
- An undergraduate or graduate or have an equivalent degree (desirable but not essential);
- An excellent team player; this is an all for one, and one for all environment;
- A good communicator with excellent spoken and written Turkish and English;
- Able to work under pressure as part of a large team and complete tasks to an agreed standard;
- Able to remain customer focused, polite and courteous under pressure;
- Able to manage own work with minimal supervision;
- Experience in Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word and Excel;
- Flexible and positive about working in a forward thinking, modern and motivated department, which is working at the forefront of visa work.
- Proficient in the following FCO key competences:
o Seeing the Big Picture - seeing the big picture is about having an in-depth understanding and knowledge of how your role fits with and supports organisational objectives and the wider public needs.
o Leading and Communicating - effectiveness in this area is about leading from the front and communicating with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm. It’s about supporting principles of fairness of opportunity for all and a dedication to a diverse range of citizens.
o Collaborating and Partnering - people skilled in this area create and maintain positive, professional and trusting working relationships with a wide range of people within and outside the organisation to help get business done.
o Managing a Quality Service - effectiveness in this area is about being organised to deliver service objectives and striving to improve the quality of service, taking account of diverse customer needs and requirements.
o Delivering at Pace - effectiveness in this area means focusing on delivering timely performance with energy and taking responsibility and accountability for quality outcomes.
Terms and Conditions
This is a full-time temporary contract, for varied periods from 1st April (or as soon thereafter as possible) until 30th October 2016 for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
As this is a temporary position annual leave entitlements may only be used at the end of the contract.
The annual salary for this position is 56,469.60 TL gross (pro rata), A2 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General in Istanbul are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.
