The British Consulate General in Istanbul is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is seeking a Business Support Officer to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) team.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) has overall responsibility for promoting UK trade across the world and attracting foreign investment to the UK. We are a specialised government body with responsibility for negotiating international trade policy, supporting business, as well as delivering an outward-looking trade diplomacy strategy.

We are setting up a regional support unit based in Istanbul to provide corporate support to our (HM) Trade Commissioner and Deputy Trade Commissioner for the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Network (EECAN). EECAN consists of 14 markets, including Russia, the countries of the former Soviet Union (excluding the Baltics), Turkey, and Mongolia.

This post will form part of this new support unit, the main responsibilities will include:

Private Office, operations and logistical support
  • Managing of diary including scheduling  appointments/conference calls and follow up on meeting requests for the Deputy Trade Commissioner, COO and Regional Market Access Co-ordinator;
  • Travel arrangements for domestic and UK trips;
  • Preparation of meeting papers or briefing / follow up notes;
  • Co-ordination and logistics management of events, including contracting catering, ensuring costs represent value for money; drawing up guest lists, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure events are well attended;
  • Supporting teams across the network in small and medium posts to manage their events and activities when required;
  • Maintaining and managing network organograms and other staff information/data;
  • Supporting our finance lead on EECAN budgets.

Support the implementation of the EECAN People Pan and Learning & Development Plan

  • Organising L&D and conference activities;
  • Supporting an active network of L&D champions around the region.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience  
  • Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work under pressure;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written);
  • The ability to manage and prioritise workload;
  • Confident with IT solutions, including MS Office;
  • A strong culture of customer service with a proven ability to deliver for the team;
  • Organisation and excellent time management – a proven ability to work on several projects at once;
  • Excellent attention to detail and planning skills;
  • The ability to manage time effectively and work quickly.
  • Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  
  • Experience of project management;
  • HR and/or L&D expertise, in particular experience in or knowledge of developing L&D programmes.

Other benefits and conditions of employment  
  • This is a full-time fixed-term contract, for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week, until 31 March 2020 with possibility of extension.
  • The monthly salary for this position is 1,447.61 USD A2 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

  • The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
